What is the PTSA?

The PTSA is the acronym for ‘Parent Teacher Student Association.’ The PTSA is about connecting and working together to support the health, well-being, and educational needs of all students at Cleveland High School.  The PTSA connects parents, teachers & administrators and supports critical school needs that affect all students at CHS, including our own students.

The PTSA engages and empowers families and communities to advocate for the children at CHS. The PTSA supports one another while engaging with students and staff at CHS to build a community of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Why should I join?

  • Do you want to get involved at your student’s high school?
  • Do you want to have a positive impact on your student’s high school experience?
  • Do you want to connect with other parents and staff members at CHS or know more about what is happening at your student’s high school?
  • If you want to get involved in any way, regardless of the reason, the PTSA invites you to join.
  • PTSA members gain a new perspective on program and youth leadership development and better understand the youth today.
  • Well-informed, engaged parents/guardians (etc.) make a difference in student success in school, sports, and beyond.
  • The PTSA connects parents, teachers, and administrators while supporting critical school needs.
  • The PTSA members help advocate for the betterment of all children. While engaging and empowering families and the community to advocate for the children at CHS

Who can join: parents, educators, students, and other members of the community (grandparents, neighbors, alumni, etc.) All are invited to join our non-profit PTSA, regardless of race, sex, economic background, ESL, or work schedule. All are invited to join.

Without Board Members, We Cannot Be A PTSA. Without Committee Members, We Cannot Be an Effective PTSA

How can I join and be a member?

Do I have to be a board or committee member to join: No, you do not have to be a board member or a committee member to join. However, you can sign up and be a part of a committee and focus your talents on that particular committee. For instance, if you signed up to be on the membership committee, you would help recruit members to be part of the PTSA.

I work full-time, and I have a family: The majority of the PTSA members are parents and work full-time. The PTSA strives to have flexible monthly meetings while showing up for our children and the student body at CHS.

About the PTSA President

Castalia Simon 2024-25

Castalia (Cus-tal-Leah) is a first-born generation American on her paternal side who is from Central America. Castalia moved to Seattle at the age of 4 from Arizona and attended Van Asselt for a head-start, then attended Lowell Elementary and moved to Winlock, WA (which is south of Olympia) to attend high school. She moved back to Seattle, where she currently resides.

Castalia joined the PTSA in 2023 and became an active board member as Vice President. Her goal was to help with events, such as school dances, and she wanted to help CHS students enjoy high school a little bit more. Castalia was also an active Tennis, Fast Pitch, and Softball parent, where she discovered that the Seattle School District didn’t fund equipment, transportation, etc., for sports. Castalia was one of many parents who helped raise funds for the school years 2023 and 2024 through the SNAP program launched by the Athletic Booster Club Committee Chair -Lisa Nakamura. Lisa is also an active voting member of the PTSA.

Castalia is a working Project Manager-Engineer, a mom of three, and a fur mom. She is continuously going through rehabilitation for a diagnosed hidden disability that occurred in an automobile accident that involved a DUI. It is mentioned that Castalia has a busy day-to-day schedule like many others, but the PTSA welcomes everyone no matter the background.
