    ANNOUNCEMENTS

    HELP US HELP OTHERS
    Cleveland's National Honor Society and the Black Student Union are holding a clothing drive. Donations will be accepted Jan. 14-27. Place any unwanted, laundered clothes in any of the boxes in your advisory class! Give your clothes a new home to people who need them. Questions? Contact any NHS or BSU club member. 

    PRICE INCREASE
    The price of the yearbook will increase to $75 after Feb. 14. Only 240 books were ordered and more than half have already been sold. DON'T WAIT! Order your yearbook today!

    MOVING UPWARD
    Hey Eagles! Do you want to get into college? Do you want scholarships? Do you want to get paid for taking summer classes? If you said ‘yes’ to any of those questions, then join UW Upward Bound. Upward Bound is a free program that will help you get into college. They will help you with the SAT, college applications, scholarships, and financial aid. They also have a six-week summer program on the UW campus and will pay you up to $125 for completing it. Hurry! Limited spots available for 9th and 10th graders only. Ask your counselor for an application. The deadline is Feb. 3.

    OPEN FOR BUSINESS
    The student store is now open. The Business Club will be selling items like pocky, popcorn, gum and Hello Panda and other items every Tuesday-Friday. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, it will be open for both lunches. On Wednesdays and Fridays, it will be open for just first lunch.

    BLACK FAMILIES UNITE
    The PTSA will be hosting its annual Black Family Engagement Brunch on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 9 a.m. This is an opportunity for Black families to discuss topics that are relevant to their community and their students at Cleveland. More details about the event will be mailed home to families.

    GET IN GEAR
    Extra spirit gear is available for purchase. Items range from $15-$30 and come in various sizes. Gear can be purchased in Room 1162 during lunch.

    PICTURE PERFECT
    Senior cap and gown photos are now ready for viewing and purchasing. Students can log onto rowlandstudio.simplephoto.com. Type your student ID number in the code box. You may then choose to create an account or click "No thanks." Then select "Enter gallery." From there, you can order your prints.

    SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
    The Southeast Asian American Education (SEAeD) Coalition Scholarship has created a new scholarship for $2,500 to be awarded to two students this year. The mission of the scholarship is to 1) raise awareness regarding the educational opportunity gap of Southeast Asian American community and 2) provide college funding support for Southeast Asian American students. To apply, click here.The deadline is March 1.

    Eligibility requirements are:
    Must be of Southeast Asian Ethnic heritage that include one of the following:
    (Burmese, Cham, Hmong, Karen, Karenni, Khmer (Cambodian), Khmu, Lao, Mienh/Iu-Mienh, Montagnard, Taidam, Vietnamese) 
    Current High School Senior or Undergraduate Student (freshmen, sophomore, junior)
    Must be a full-time student
    WA State resident
    No GPA requirements

    Senior Families: Students will be able to get college application support on Wednesdays after school in the library from 2:20-4:00 p.m. from our College Prep Advisor Cam Tu Nguyen, cnguyen@collegesuccessfoundation.org


    ATHLETICS

    SPRING SPORTS BEGIN
    Spring sports season begins on March 2. Make sure all paperwork is completed before that day. All information regarding Eagle athletics, including schedules, can be found at www.clevelandeagles.org

    Boys Swim: Boys swim team defeated Lincoln and Nathan Hale on Friday evening! The team is now 6-0 and at the top of the metro league standings. They have tough test this week, as the host Ballard at the Rainier Beach pool this Friday.

    Wrestling: Big success for the wrestling team at the 2020 Relentless Tournament at Chief Sealth. Savion Galloway and DJ Arns both took 1st place in their weight class. Brothers Brandyn and Jeramy Troung both took 3rd place. Overall, Cleveland finished in 6th out of 15 teams. Way to go wrestling!

    Basketball: The boys basketball team caught fire on Friday and defeated Chief Sealth, 72-54. The girls team came up just short against Chief Sealth, 54-50. The they did win earlier in the week over Tyee, 42-39.

    ALL-COACHES TRAINING
    Cleveland will be formally working with Team Up Washington to train all coaches on how to teach student athletes about healthy relationships, consent, gender stereotypes, etc. Spring coaches will attend the training on Feb. 10. Fall coaches will have the training over the summer.  

    SIGN UP FOR WINTER & SPRING SPORTS
    Sports registration has gone DIGITAL! All athletes need to sign up immediately for winter sports and can sign up now for spring sports online! Go to www.clevelandeagles.org to register. Parents/Guardians start the process by creating an account and adding the student athlete. A $25 ASB fee must be paid for the year for all athletes. No practices until you are cleared by the athletic department. GO EAGLES!

    ALL-CLUBS MEETING
    ASB leaders are holding an all-clubs meeting on Tuesday during lunch/advisory in room 2264. This is a required meeting for all club officers (or at least one representative from your organization).

    There will be a PTSA auction planning meeting on Monday, Feb. 3, in Room 1162 at 6 p.m. All club leaders are invited to attend. Come find out how the PTSA can help you raise money for your organization.
