    To stay on top of school closings and weather updates, be sure to check the district website often.  

    HELP US HELP OTHERS
    Cleveland's National Honor Society and the Black Student Union are holding a clothing drive. Donations will be accepted Jan. 14-27. Place any unwanted, laundered clothes in any of the boxes in your advisory class! Give your clothes a new home to people who need them. Questions? Contact any NHS or BSU club member. 

    SATURDAYS ARE FOR STUDYING
    There will be Saturday school on Jan. 25 for students with D's or E's in their core classes. Students who need the extra help will receive a note. This study session is by invitation only.

    PRICE INCREASE
    The price of the yearbook will increase to $75 after Feb. 14. Only 240 books were ordered and more than half have already been sold. DON'T WAIT! Order your yearbook today!

    OPEN FOR BUSINESS
    The student store is now open. The Business Club will be selling items like pocky, popcorn, gum and Hello Panda and other items every Tuesday-Friday. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, it will be open for both lunches. On Wednesdays and Fridays, it will be open for just first lunch.

    GIVE ME A BREAK
    There will be no school on Monday, Jan. 20, in observance of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. School will also be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 29 (day between semesters).

    OPPORTUNITY FOR SOPHOMORES
    Attention 10th graders! Do you want to go to college? Are you interested in STEM or pursuing a career in Health Care? Do you need help preparing for the SAT or need free tutoring? The University of Washington STEMsub/Math Science Upward Bound College Prep Program Application is NOW AVAILABLE. Please go to the Counseling Office for applications and more information. Fill out the application at http://uwmsub.org/apply/

    UPWARD BOUND WANTS YOU
    If you are a 9th or 10th grader and would like assistance as you prepare for college, please go to the counseling office and pick up a UW Upward Bound application. UB offers a 6-week summer academy at the University of Washington that provides SAT test prep, tutoring, college tours, scholarship application assistance, academic advising, and much more. The priority deadline is Jan. 17, 2020

    BLACK FAMILIES UNITE
    The PTSA will be hosting its annual Black Family Engagement Brunch on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 9 a.m. This is an opportunity for Black families to discuss topics that are relevant to their community and their students at Cleveland. More details about the event will be mailed home to families.

    Extra spirit gear is available for purchase. Items range from $15-$30 and come in various sizes. Gear can be purchased in Room 1162 during lunch.


    INFORMATION FOR SENIORS

    PICTURE PERFECT
    Senior cap and gown photos are now ready for viewing and purchasing. Students can log onto rowlandstudio.simplephoto.com. Type your student ID number in the code box. You may then choose to create an account or click "No thanks." Then select "Enter gallery." From there, you can order your prints.

    CAP & GOWN PHOTOS
    Did you miss cap and gown picture day? Schedule an appointment with Ms. Scribner in Room 1162 BEFORE JAN. 17! All photos will be taken on Thursdays during lunch or after school. This is your last chance to have your picture taken for the yearbook.

    GET YOUR TREAT
    Seniors, if you completed your financial aid, stop in at the Counseling Center for a treat! Don’t forget: the college deadline for Financial Aid is Wednesday! The goal is 90 percent completion rate. If you have any questions, see your counselor.

    GET MONEY
    Senior Families: Students will be able to get college application support on Wednesdays after school in the library from 2:20-4:00 p.m. from our College Prep Advisor Cam Tu Nguyen, cnguyen@collegesuccessfoundation.org


    ATHLETICS

    LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
    Wrestling: On Saturday, the wrestling team hosted 26 schools in the King of Beacon Hill Tournament. Senior Savion Galloway took 1st place in his weight division (195) and DJ Arns, also a senior, took 2nd in the 220 weight class.

    SPORTS ANNOUNCEMENTS
    Baseball conditioning will be held every Tuesday and Thursday in the weight room from 4-6 p.m. There will be an instructor on site taking attendance and administering strength and agility exercises strictly relating to the sport of baseball. See coach Hakim Finch for more details.

    SIGN UP FOR WINTER & SPRING SPORTS
    Sports registration has gone DIGITAL! All athletes need to sign up immediately for winter sports and can sign up now for spring sports online! Go to www.clevelandeagles.org to register. Parents/Guardians start the process by creating an account and adding the student athlete. A $25 ASB fee must be paid for the year for all athletes. No practices until you are cleared by the athletic department. GO EAGLES!

    CLUBS

    LATINX STUDENTS UNITE!
    The Latinx Students United (LSU) club will hold their first meetings on Tuesdays during lunch and advisory in the Career Center. The group is led by Francisco Sanchez-Garcia.

    SING ALONG
    Do you like to sing? The Choir Club is looking for new members. No experience necessary. The club meets every Friday at 3:45 in the sound rooms across the hall from room 1180. Sign up for notices on Remind: @chssingsations

    AFRICAN STUDENTS COME TOGETHER
    The African Students Association is a new club for students of African descent. The group meets on Thursdays during lunch/advisory in room 1137.
