ATHLETICS
Basketball: Metro League Playoffs begin tonight! The boys team plays at Lakeside and the girls at Ingraham in loser out games. Friday night was a packed house against rival RBHS. The Eagles played close in both games. The boys game was a thriller going down to the last seconds. Both cheer squads brought their A-game and entertained all night (including a pre-game Unity Cheer and Jasmine read a statement to the crowd about the history/purpose of cheer battles). The band was in awesome form and the gym was at full capacity. Great night in South Seattle!
Wrestling: METRO CHAMPIONSHIPS! It has been 20 years since Cleveland had a wrestler win a Metro Championship. On Saturday, the Eagles won FOUR! Congrats to Nathan Truong (132), Jeramy Truong (145), DJ Arns (195), and Savion Galloway (220) for all taking home a Metro Championship in their weight class. Savion defeated the defending State Champion in his match. Also, Andrew Vuu (120) took home a 2nd place win. It was a recording setting weekend for the wrestling team! Congrats to them all and their amazing coaches – Dave Rosario, Dan Hamilton, Mitchell Torres, and Tracy Thorn. Regionals take place this Saturday at Eastside Catholic! State Championships begin Feb 22.
Swimming: The swim team competed strong in Metros this past weekend! The following all placed and are advancing to SeaKing Districts this Friday/Saturday: Antony Bui, Andrew Hong, Lucas Kwan, Aidan Lopez-Escarez, and Steven Mai. Congrats Eagle swimmers. What a season!
